Are you a legal resident of Spain yet? You should be.

Many British papers are writing articles on the “unlikely”, but still possible, event of a “No-Deal Brexit”. This possibility becoming ever more real has caused many British citizens to try and get themselves legal residents of whichever EU country they currently reside in, ensuring their paperwork is correct and up-to-date.

Having spoken recently with Extranjeria here in Benidorm, Costa Blance North has seen a huge increase in British Expats trying to become legal residents in Spain. It is no wonder why, when every news source is reporting on unstable governments, the armed forces and some of the UK’s biggest companies and organisations preparing for this outcome.

But should we be worried?

The simple answer here is: Yes.

Below you will find a link to the GOV.UK page to their policy paper on citizens rights in the event of a no deal Brexit. This paper outlines how the UK has pledged to protect those residing in the UK and hope that the other member states will honor the same agreement in the event the deal is rejected and our relationship with the EU abruptly ends on March 30th 2019.

This is just one of the reasons why ensuring you are a legal resident of Spain should be everyones top priority. If you are unsure if you have all you paperwork in order, please download our free PDF Essential Expat Guide and check what you need to become a legal resident.
